Ghostable Desktop for macOS Is in Early Access
Ghostable Desktop for macOS is now in early access for teams that want a lower-friction way to manage environment variables without compromising Ghostable's zero-knowledge security model.
Managing your environment variables in a terminal window using the Ghostable CLI is fast when you have the commands and arguments memorized. Productivity drops when you need to stop, switch context, and start looking things up.
For agents and automated scripts, precise terminal workflows are a strength. For humans, that same precision can be a poor fit when you need to casually explore environments, compare validation rules, or review change history side by side.
That mismatch in developer experience is exactly why we built Ghostable Desktop for macOS and are opening early access today.
Security
Ghostable Desktop still follows the zero-knowledge security model: secrets are encrypted and decrypted client-side, and plaintext secrets never touch Ghostable servers.
For non-local environment workflows, decryption happens in app memory during use. Teams do not need to manage downloaded plaintext env files just to perform routine updates or review changes.
What's included right now
This beta is the MVP release, focused on the workflows teams hit most often during day-to-day operations. Current support is macOS on Apple Silicon and Intel. The goal is practical: make normal variable operations easier for humans without weakening the control model teams need for audits and incident response.
- Switch between organizations and projects
- Manage organization members
- Approve new devices (re-share env keys)
- Manage deployment tokens
- Edit variables
- View variable history and perform rollbacks
- Validate environments
- Use a no-code validation rule editor
Feedback that helps
Any feedback is welcome, and the fastest place to post it is the Ghostable Discord feedback channel. Include what felt good, what felt confusing, and any bug with exact steps plus a screenshot when possible.
Before posting screenshots, redact or conceal any sensitive values.
Download
To get started, download and install the desktop client. If you are connecting to existing projects and environments, this client is treated as a new device, so a team member who already has access will need to re-share the environment keys.
