Someone has the working `.env` file. CI has a token nobody can trace. A deploy fails, and the team starts comparing local files and chat messages instead of fixing the problem. **Ghostable V3** is a simpler way to run that work. **No accounts. No subscriptions. No contracts.** V3 is free to use. It puts encrypted environment state in the repository alongside the code it belongs to, and gives developers a CLI workflow that fits the tools they already use. For people who would rather see the work than type every command, Ghostable Desktop is the visual workflow for the same project state. Git-backed, encrypted, and free to use -------------------------------------- V3 stores encrypted project state in `.ghostable/`. The CLI and Desktop read and write the same files, so an environment change can be reviewed through Git whether it started in a terminal or a desktop window. That makes the daily loop clearer. Create shared environments. Edit encrypted variables. Compare local `.env` files with the shared state. Validate required values. Review a change before it becomes a failed deploy. Plaintext values remain on authorized devices, while the project carries the encrypted state and the context needed to work on it. There is no signup required to use the core V3 workflow. It is less ideal when you are comparing environments, checking a validation failure, reviewing activity, or helping a teammate find the right setting. Ghostable Desktop brings the V3 workflow to macOS, Windows, and Linux with a local project launcher and focused project workspaces. You can browse environments and variables, attach notes, synchronize `.env` files deliberately, define validation rules, and run Review to find configuration drift and hard-coded secrets. Desktop also makes team context visible. Signed activity shows what happened and when. Access can be scoped by device and environment. Automation can use scoped credentials instead of a borrowed human identity. The work is still Git-backed and CLI-compatible, but it is easier to see, discuss, and act on.
